Dr. Culler is currently spending part of his sabbatical year at the UoA as a visiting professor, focusing on improving the quality of student writing and documentation on engineering and research projects. With a PhD in Industrial Engineering from New Mexico State University and 6 years of experience in research at Sandia National Labs, he draws on his extensive academic, industry, and international experience to prepare students for the workforce. He teaches various courses, serves as the faculty advisor for senior projects, and was involved in the ABET reaccreditation of three engineering programs. He is also active in industry outreach and serves on the Industry Advisory Board for the MMET department.
Xiangyu (Alex) Guo is a visiting PhD student from the Harbin Institute of Technology, interested in robotics, intelligent manufacturing, and intelligent operation and maintenance. He plans to stay for a year and hopes to learn new knowledge and make friends while here. Alex enjoys sharing and communicating his ideas with others and has hobbies such as chatting, reading, playing basketball and billiards.
Ali Keshvarparast is a visiting PhD student with a background in Operations Research and Data Science, passionate about using AI to solve business problems. Currently working on optimizing the implementation of collaborative robots in assembly lines, his interests include operations research, artificial intelligence, and simulation. He participates in the MAIA project and will be doing his project at UoA with Dr. Yuqian Lu for another month and a half. Ali previously worked as a Researcher-Consultant at IMI, solving factories’ problems with appropriate solutions.
